Principal’s Message

Dear Parents/Guardians

Welcome to Prince Charles.

Our theme for this year will be “Building for Student Success!”

The word “building” will take on a couple of meanings this year.  The school building is in the process of undergoing a modernization.  Renovation work started over the summer with the preparation and installation a new ventilation system, a new wheelchair ramp at the back entrance of the school and where the buses drop off the children.  The old boiler will be replaced in the spring of 2010.  Classrooms will be getting revitalized starting in November.  This will result in some classrooms being moved either to the gym or the library for a couple months during the year.  The end result will be fresh paint, new shelving, lighting and flooring in all the classrooms – we are very excited about this!  In 2010 we will also have work done to enlarge the parking lot.

Building positive partnerships between the school and our families directly impacts how successful our students will be – academically and socially.  Our students continued success relies heavily on parents supporting their children, encouraging them to do daily home reading and talking to them about what they are learning!

Prince Charles School is part of W8 which consists of 8 West end schools – Brightview, Athlone, Belmead, Youngstown, Inglewood, Glendale and Sherwood.  For over a year, all of W8 staff have been focused on building positive relationships, working with district consultants, sharing teaching best practices, collaborating, learning about resiliency all with the goal of maximizing student success.  We strongly believe that building positive relationships is critical to student success.

We will continue with our school-wide practice of following the Code of the Golden Feather – treating others with Respect, acting with Integrity and Humility and being Honest.  We strongly believe that each of our students is capable of following the Code of the Golden Feather and being role models to their peers!

We encourage parents to build positive relationships with their child’s teacher and bus driver.  The strength of these connections is what makes our school a great place to be!

Additional information about school expectations can be found in your child’s agenda.

We look forward to seeing you at the School Start-Up Celebration and Corn Fest on Sept 16th – a reminder notice will be sent home closer to the date.
